Weekly half hour radio programme on 5EBI FM (Ethnic Broadcasting)

Dear all,

I am offering a workshop on Scottish Gaelic language and Highland culture, designed to give an insight to anyone interested in some history and the current state of Highland culture and particularly the Gaelic language.

The Scottish Gaelic workshop proposed for early January 2009 is going ahead. Ruaraidh MacIlleathain is visiting Hobart from Scotland. Ruaraidh is a Gaelic journalist and broadcaster who has been running Gaelic Awareness courses for many Scottish organizations, and who lived 19 years in Hobart.

Ruairidh MacIlleathain will run the 3 hour session on 12th January 2009, starting at 7pm at the Glenorchy Library, Derwent Room, Hobart

Can you please confirm by email or phone by the  5th January 2009  if you are coming.

Approximately half the time will be taken up with Roddy presenting material on the language and culture, and the remainder on questions and discussion.

Anyone interested should email me robe083@bigpond.com or ring me 0428509660  or 62312130  BEFORE November 10th 2008 so we can decide whether there is enough interest for Ruaraidh to bring his material. Any offers of help welcome too. Please provide email and phone contact.

The aim is twofold: 1. To give people interested in Scottish Highland and Island culture an update on its current state, especially the language.

                             2. To gauge interest and/or discover local expertise in the language, with a view to assessing reality of language classes.

The workshop is  relevant and interesting to people even if they don't want to learn the language...we are just hoping to flush out one or two speakers and some who are interested in learning , BUT the workshop will be pitched as an update on culture and language in Highlands and Islands today...so you don't have to be interested in learning the language.
